Maya told something very funny.
We all laughed a lot.
Immediately she goes –

  • Maya – I think I’m going to be a stand up comedian
  • Papa – oh wow. So having a band and becoming a singer is now gone for a toss?
  • Maya – No no. You can be whatever you want to be papa. So that is still in my list.
  • Me – oh good. How did it suddenly strike you that you need to get into stand up comedy?
  • Maya – Well I make you both laugh all the time right? So I think I’ll be able to make thousands laugh.
  • Me – yeah you might be able to. We will see..
  • Maya – I’m sure after the comedy event, people will all clap and say it was amazing.
  • (you all know how I like to throw situations at her to get her perspectives)
  • Me – Do you think everyone will like your comedy? What if there are few who didn’t like it at all.?
  • Maya ( thinking)..
  • Hmm.. Is it? Will there be people who don’t like comedy?
  • Me – Yes baby. There are people who don’t like comedy?
  • Maya – Then why would they come to a comedy show.?
  • Me – ha ha. Good question. But there can be people in the audience who didn’t like your comedy. Maybe they like someone else’s. So those people won’t clap. Will you be ready for such responses too?
  • Maya – I think I’ll be fine. I mean most of them would like it right? Just a few people not liking it will not stop me from making jokes.

Though completely a hypothetical situation, I got a big lesson from this. I’m sure you all got your lessons. Keep doing what you are doing. There will be some who don’t connect with you. And That’s okay. That’s just the way it is
