Eating by Myself

EATING BY MYSELF

Starting your baby on solid foods (also known as ‘weaning’) is an exciting developmental milestone and one which any parent is naturally keen to begin on the right track.

For good reason, how you feed your baby is not only relevant to their immediate health, but also has a significant impact on their long-term physical and psychological health, their relationship with food and their attitude to eating. As a mother who has done baby led weaning for my daughter & having dealt with thousands of issues of parents in our support group, I can offer all the info you need to let your baby enter into the world of solids confidently.

We can talk through any or all of the following topics to give you the confidence and know-how to start off weaning onto solid foods in the best direction you can, without worrying about being a slave to the kitchen!

  • When and how to start solid foods
  • Physical signs of readiness in your baby
  • Baby led weaning & traditional weaning
  • Transition from pureed food to self feeding
  • Allergies, aversions, hunger strikes
  • Gagging & choking
  • Preventing fussy eating
  • Growth & weight gain
  • How to handle misinformed grandparents
  • Encouraging self feeding in toddlers
  • Food habits & child psychology

Eating by Myself...

Do you listen to your child’s No.? Do you understand that there is a beautiful connection between the body & brain and that the body can  communicate satiety and fullness to the brain.? If so, when your child is done eating & they say a big No, do you respect their No? If not, do you realise that you are actually telling them that they don’t know enough about their bodies & an adult can decide on behalf of them.

They can’t learn consent & boundaries if you do this. According to me our education on consent starts with the way we were conditioned to finish what’s on the plate.
